Do dogs know how you are feeling?
Yes, yes they do. But how?
Like people, dogs display a 'left gaze bias' when looking at emotionally expressive human faces because the right side of human faces are more expressive
Dogs don't have a left gaze bias when looking at other dogs
Why do dogs do this?
It's not clear
Since it is such a consistent behavior, shouldn't we be able to explain it?
Here are some options
- They like the view
- It keeps them cool without panting
- It's a high-def olfactory experience
- They don't like being cooped up
